課程概述
This course is specially designed for (a) the students of “Taiwan Study Program” (台灣研究學程), (b) the foreign undergraduate and graduate students, or called “international students”, enrolled in National Taiwan University, and (c) the students who are interested in learning the progress of Taiwan technologies. The students can be in any major or department, such as in college of law, management, life science, engineering, and science, etc. The language used in this course is English. The maximum number of the students for this course is limited to 80. Local Taiwanese students, maximum 40 persons, can also take this course.
The instructors for this course include (1) Dr. H.J. Sheen, Professor of Institute of Applied Mechanics, National Taiwan University and Director of Nano-Electro-Mechanical-System (NEMS) Research Center, and (2) Prof. Robert Y. Lai, Chair Professor of Tatung University. During the semester we are going to introduce many new technology achievements in Taiwan industries and research institutes during the past few decades, especially after 1980.
課程目標
This introductory course intends to provide the students the basic understanding to learn the technological creation results of Taiwan, as well as to develop and discover what their research and career interests are.
課程要求
During each class, one or two technological topics will be introduced by the instructors and a video movie (about 25-30 minutes) will be presented to all the students. The students are encouraged to ask and answer the questions during the classes.
成績評量方式
- Class attendance (20%), the students should come to every class and we are going to check it every week,
- Interactions during the class (10%), the students are encouraged to ask and answer questions during the class,
- 6 short reports (30%), one or two pages “handwriting” short report for each chosen topic and hand in 3 reports before the midterm test and another 3 before the final class,
- One term report (10%), the term report or final report should be more than 5 pages and have detailed discussion concerning one chosen topic, and
- Students’ presentation (bonus points), the students can form a group of up to 3 persons and give a10-minute presentation concerning a chosen topic.
- One Midterm and one Final tests (30 %)
